Air Source Heat Pump Installation in Tonbridge, TN

EE Renewables Ltd installs MCS-certified air source heat pumps across Tonbridge and the TN postcodes. Around the Castle and High Street the first question is conservation-area siting. Out through Hildenborough, Cage Green and Higham Wood it is access, radiators and whether a combi has already removed the cylinder. We establish that before quoting. Book a free survey today.

Why install an air source heat pump in Tonbridge?

Tonbridge mixes a medieval High Street and Castle core with later estates in Cage Green, Trench Wood and Higham Wood, and village edges at Hildenborough, Hadlow, Leigh and Shipbourne. Those are not the same install. The historic core needs a conservation-area check before anyone talks kW. The estates are usually a siting, cylinder and emitter problem.

Village and rural-edge homes toward Hadlow, Shipbourne and parts of Leigh are more likely to be off the gas grid. That changes the grant: eligible oil or LPG replacements can claim £9,000 from 21 July 2026 instead of £7,500. It is worth flagging at survey rather than discovering it after the quote.

Since May 2025, England no longer requires a one-metre gap to the boundary. Siting is governed by the MCS 020(a) noise assessment. A unit that passes on an open Hildenborough plot can fail in a tight yard off the High Street. We calculate it.

Conservation areas cover the Castle and High Street, Quarry Hill, Haysden, Hildenborough, Hadlow and Shipbourne. Permitted development still covers most domestic units on ordinary houses, but a highway-facing unit in a conservation area, or work on a listed building, needs consent.

Heat pump installation cost in Tonbridge

Consent in the historic core, access on the estates, and off-gas grant status in the villages move the price as much as system size. Figures below reflect 2026 MCS installer pricing across TN9–TN12.

Guide ranges cover the outdoor unit, hot water cylinder, controls, commissioning and typical radiator upgrades, at 0% VAT. *The £9,000 Boiler Upgrade Scheme rate applies from 21 July 2026 to 31 March 2027 for eligible off-gas properties replacing oil or LPG. Conservation-area and listed addresses may carry additional consent costs. Figures are indicative and confirmed at survey.

Tonbridge homes replacing a gas boiler or electric heating qualify for £7,500 towards an air-to-water heat pump. Eligible off-gas homes replacing oil or LPG — more common toward Hadlow, Shipbourne and parts of Leigh — can claim £9,000 from 21 July 2026. We make the Ofgem application as your MCS-certified installer and deduct the grant from your invoice. Installation is zero-rated for VAT.

Most of the town is on mains gas, where design and tariff decide whether you undercut the boiler. Off-gas village homes replacing oil often have both a higher grant and a larger running-cost step. We will not mix those two cases into one average.

A documented MCS heat pump generally lifts an EPC. If fabric work pays more than a larger unit, we will put that first. Landlords can apply on properties they own.

Tonbridge and Malling Borough Council declared a climate and biodiversity emergency in July 2019 and adopted a Climate Change Strategy 2020–2030 aiming for a carbon-neutral borough by 2030. A household heat pump is the heating measure you can commission this year.

Tonbridge’s Octopus Energy trusted renewable energy partners

We’ve spent over a decade in green home energy and we’re MCS-approved installers of Vaillant UK air source heat pumps. We’re also an Octopus Energy Trusted Partner, and at the 2026 Octopus Energy Trusted Partner Awards we were named Solar & Battery Installer of the Year from more than 650 partners nationwide.

TN buyers ask about the Castle conservation area, village oil boilers and the grant paperwork. Those are the right questions. Octopus selects, vets and monitors its partners on installation quality and customer service. The partnership also opens the smart heat-pump tariffs that decide whether running costs actually fall.

ASHP running costs and savings for Tonbridge homeowners

Where you start from decides the bill. Under the Ofgem cap for July to September 2026, electricity costs 26.11p per kWh against 7.33p for gas. A heat pump closes that gap by producing three to four units of heat per unit of electricity, so a system running at a SCOP of 3.5 sits close to gas parity on a standard tariff.

The saving comes from the tariff. On a specialist heat-pump tariff the Energy Saving Trust puts typical annual savings at £200–£400 against gas. Coming off heating oil in Hadlow or Shipbourne is usually a larger step than coming off mains gas in Cage Green.

A tight terrace off the High Street and an insulated detached house in Hildenborough are not the same load. We model your property’s real demand at survey rather than quoting a borough-wide average.
