Are solar panels worth it in Bristol?

Bristol has a problem it’s been open about: the city can’t generate enough electricity to meet its own demand. What varies is the roof. Bristol’s housing runs from dense Victorian terraces to substantial detached homes, and the two need different approaches:

  • Victorian terraces in Easton, Bedminster, Totterdown and St George — usually a single rear pitch, so compact arrays with higher-efficiency panels make the most of limited area. Steep streets mean neighbouring roofs sometimes shade one another, so orientation and shading analysis matter.
  • Semi-detached homes in Horfield, Brislington and Knowle — broader unbroken pitches, straightforward installations, room for a full-size system.
  • Detached properties in Henleaze, Stoke Bishop and Westbury-on-Trym — space for larger arrays and the strongest candidates for battery storage.
